A protest action organised by Save the Children was held near the Palace of Westminster in London, Wednesday, to highlight the fact that 2.8 million Syrian children do not have the chance to attend school due to the conflict in the region.
Two Syrian refugees, 10-year-old Dania and 12-year-old Abdallah were sitting in a fake, destroyed from classroom in front of dozens of journalists. The classroom was 'destroyed' to show the effects of bombing campaigns in the country.
The children answered "absent" when names of their 'classmates' were called out by a Save the Children worked playing the role of the teacher. That person, Amal Kaoua who is senior conflict and humanitarian advisor for the charitable organisation said that "more can be done by Europe in general to understand that there's a reason why people are fleeing". She also said that there has been a response from UK the government, but that whether they "will do enough to assist those particularly in Europe who have made this journey on their own remains to be seen."
