France: Protesters rally against jail time for Goodyear employees

Protesters marched through the town of Amiens, Wednesday in condemnation of the prison sentences given to eight former Goodyear workers accused of the illegal detention of two executives from the company. If convicted, they might face a sentence of nine months in prison from November.
The protesters arrived at the Court of Appeal waving CGT union flags and demanded to free the accused. Reportedly, the CGT union also announced strikes in solidarity with the former employees. Member of SUD Chimie Jean-Claude commented on the incident, saying that the authorities have started "to criminalise the work union".
The workers from the main French trade union CGT "bossnapped" the executives in 2014 after threats were made to close their factory. A judge on January 12th sentenced the eight workers to 24 months, nine of those in prison, and the rest on probation.
