Classic cars go green at home of British motorsport

This is for the full restoration of the vehicle, the ground-up doing bare metal re-spray, for example, all the way to the interior being re-trimmed, re-designed and the conversion that we carry out with our unique power train."

SOT, Jon Hilton, Lunaz Design technical director: "Here we're not looking for ultimate performance, but we like smooth, quiet, comfortable driving, again over a really good long range and so we've got a 120kWh battery in the Phantom V. That's a very big battery pack and will still give us a range of nearly 300 miles."

I actually, I was flying to Ibiza on holiday and I got kicked off the plane because they had too many people for the flight out of London City Airport. They put me in a taxi to Heathrow, Estate put me up overnight and put me on a different plane the next day where by complete coincidence I was sat next to David and we got talking and he had a Supercar Drivers' Club Magazine in his seat pocket in front of him and I belonged to the same club. We got chatting about cars and he explained what he wanted to do with classic cars and I said 'You know, I think I can help you with that' and we met up again afterwards. and the rest is history really, so, really interesting."

Classic cars are having an environmentally-friendly electric makeover thanks to a start-up working out of the home of British motor racing Silverstone.
Lunaz Design's founder David Lorenz and technical director Jon Hilton explained how the company was giving new life to iconic vehicles during a visit to their headquarters on Tuesday.
The idea was first hatched after a chance meeting on a flight. The pair then embarked on re-designing and re-engineering classic cars.
The 1953 Jaguar XK120 and a Rolls Royce Phantom V were the latest brands to have an electric battery-powered power train installed.
Prices start at £350,000 ($428,000; €405,000) and the cars can reach a range of 300 miles (482km).
