European Council President Donald Tusk assured the Verkhovna Rada the European Union is "with" Ukraine, while giving a speech in Ukrainian in Kiev on Tuesday.
I “stand before you today and say again, not only on my own behalf, but on behalf of the whole of the European Union: we are with you and we want to continue to help you,” Tusk said.
Addressing the Ukrainian parliament on the fifth anniversary of the Euromaidan, Tusk thanked Ukrainians for the courage demonstrated during the dramatic events.
"You gave to many people around the world, to the humiliated and enslaved, the greatest gift: hope – that for them too, for those who now are weak, that day of victory will come," he said.
Tusk also reiterated that the European Union "will never recognise the Russian annexation of Crimea and will not drop the sanctions unless Russia fulfils its commitments. Nor will the EU accept any acts of violence in the Sea of Azov."
He stressed that he would do everything in his power "to ensure that the EU remains united in this respect."
