French President Francois Hollande arrived to the port of Calais, Monday, to visit the area of the 'Jungle' refugee camp for the first time since winning office in 2012. Hollande was met by a small group of protesters from the CGT (General Confederation of Labour) national trade union.
Hollande will allegedly meet police, port officials, and local officials but is not expected to visit the camp itself.
On Saturday, Hollande announced that thousands of migrants living in the 'Jungle' refugee camp would be dispersed around France. "Our intention is to dismantle Calais entirely, and to promote this reception and orientation centres and relocate people throughout the French territory, with small centres made up by 40-60 people staying for a limited time, between three and four months," he said.
