French President Emmanuel Macron said that France, under his new government, would continue not to “recognise the annexation of Crimea," speaking at a joint press conference with his Ukrainian counterpart Petro Poroshenko in Paris, Monday.
"France is committed to affirming the sovereignty of Ukraine within its recognised borders," Macron said, stressing that he will seek, along with European partners, to put forward "a series of new conditions on both sides, and to try to find a concrete solution to the crisis.”
On his end, Poroshenko said, "We do not need many hours of negotiations," stating that the upcoming Normandy talks "may look like the end of Russian aggression."
"We are sure that the documents and memorandums should be carefully prepared, and once signed, these documents should put an end to the long-suffering Ukrainian land," Poroshenko said.
France, Germany, Ukraine and Russia are expected to engage in a new series of negotiations in Normandy in the upcoming weeks.
