President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev held a meeting with Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu in Astana, Saturday, to discuss the development of bilateral relations.
The two leaders touched on the trade and industrial outlooks for both countries, with Davutoglu stressing that bilateral relations are intensifying in all areas. The Turkish prime minister stated that Kazakhstan and Turkey have already begun the successful implementation of joint programmes in transportation and energy.
Nazarbayev meanwhile remarked that the visit of Davutoglu and his Turkish delegation highlights the importance of Turkey to Kazakhstan. Commenting on recent tensions between Russia and Turkey, the president said it was important to smooth ties between the two nations.
At present, Turkey is the second-largest Asian, and fifth-largest world, trade partner of Kazakhstan. In 2015, trade turnover between the two countries reached $2.60 billion (€2.33 billion).
