A guitar owned by John Lennon that went missing in 1963 has recently been discovered and can be seen at Julien's Auctions in Beverly Hills, California, Monday, before it goes up for auction and is expected to reach up to $1 million (€908,000), which would make it the most expensive guitar auctioned in history. John Lennon's guitar will be auctioned by Julien's Auctions on Saturday, November 7, and is conservatively estimated to fetch between $600,000 (€545,000) to $800,000 (€725,000), but auctioneers believe that high interest in Lennon's 'lost guitar' could mean the instrument fetching up to a record-breaking million dollars. According to Executive Director of Julien's Auctions Martin Nolan, the owner John McCall bought the guitar in a music store in San Diego for around $225 (€205) and kept it in his family for years completely unaware of the guitar's celebrity history. John Lennon used the Gibson J-160E guitar in the studio for most recordings that required an acoustic guitar between 1962 and 1963, before the instrument went missing. The very same guitar can be heard on the Beatles albums Please Please Me and Twist and Shout among others.
