Citizens displaced by the twin earthquakes that rocked central Italy began to recover their belongings with the help of firemen, in Camerino, Firday.
Central Italy was struck by two quakes in quick succession on October 26. The first tremor, measuring 5.5 on the Richter scale, hit at around 19:11 local time (17:11 GMT) and could be felt as far as Rome some 240 km (149 miles). Shortly after a second quake of 6.1-magnitude, struck at around 21:18 local time (19:18 GMT).
Locals, who had to leave their houses and belongings behind, had to register and wait for the fire and rescue services to collect their possessions. The most affected area, the red zone, is still too dangerous and can only be accessed by the police and fire brigade. Meanwhile, hundreds are still staying in shelters, with some residents being moved to the coast and some to Calvi.
Up to 3,000 people have been displaced, according to the Civil Protection Agency. The government has announced a 40 million euros ($44 million) aid package for the region affected by the tremors.
