The final stage of jury selection for Dylann Roof’s trial, the 22-year-old who is accused of killing nine people at a famed African-American church in the area, was delayed following a court ruling in Charleston, South Carolina on Monday.
The judge in the federal case stated that the details of the hearing on pushing back the jury’s finalisation could not be revealed to the public. Jury selection is scheduled to start again on Wednesday.
Roof faces 33 federal charges including nine counts of violating the Hate Crime Act resulting in death and three counts of violating the Hate Crime Act involving an attempt to kill, among others.
On June 17, 2015, Roof reportedly sat through one hour of a Bible study class at the Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church, before shooting nine churchgoers in a purportedly racist attack.
