SOT, Khubaib Ali Mohammed, Mohamed's lawyer (German): "The defence requested today that the openness of the court case should be closed for the whole process. We will see today if that application is successful or what part of the case will be open."
SOT, Interviewer: "How emotion will it be for Aldiana [the mother of Mohamed], how will she bare that?"
SOT, Khubaib Ali Mohammed, Mohamed's lawyer: "At first she is here only today, we'll see, the specific case of Mohamed will be processed on 27th June."
The court case against Silvio S., the 33-year old German man who kidnapped, raped and killed four-year old refugee child Mohamed Januzi and six-year old German boy Elias, commenced in Potsdam's district court, Tuesday morning.
Families and relatives of both victims arrived to the court for the hearing, including the boys' mothers, with numerous press and journalists waiting for them outside the court building.
Mohamed's lawyer, Khubaib Ali Mohammed, told the gathered press that the defence had requested for the case to be a closed hearing, and it remains to be seen whether this appeal will be successful.
Mohamed, who is of Bosnian origin, was kidnapped from a refugee shelter in Berlin by then 32 year-old Silvio S. on October 1. The alleged murderer took the kidnapped child to his parents' house in Brandenburg, where he abused and killed him, using a belt to strangle the child. Silvio S. later turned himself in and confessed. During the investigations, Silvio S. also admitted to the killing of Elias, who went missing in Potsdam in July, 2015.
