Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu met with the European Commissioner for Migration Dimitris Avramopoulos at the Foreign Ministry in Ankara, Monday, on the first day of refugee repatriation agreement between Turkey and the European Union.
The meeting was followed by consultations between the two delegations, after which Avramopoulos will host a working luncheon in honour of his Turkish counterpart and Minister of European Union Affairs Volkan Bozkir. The meeting was also attended by Turkish Interior Minister Efkan Ala.
The EU-Turkey agreement stipulates that one Syrian refugee be resettled in the EU for every Syrian refugee returned to Turkey, while aid from the EU to Turkey for handling the refugee crisis will be doubled from three to six billion euros (from $3,345,300 to $6,690,600). The EU also agreed to accelerate the visa liberalisation deal with Turkey from November to June, 2016, as well as speeding up Turkey's EU accession negotiations.
