Pyongyang is working to advance its nuclear missile capabilities and developing ballistic missiles capable of hitting cities in both North America and Europe. NATO takes this threat very seriously. And we have the capabilities and the resolve to respond any aggression.
North Korea must abandon its nuclear programme. It must suspend ballistic missile development and it must refrain from further testing.
NATO supports a peaceful and negotiated solution to the crisis on the Korean Peninsula. To achieve this, we need political pressure, we need diplomatic pressure, and we need economic pressure - the full implementation of the UN Security Council sanctions.
This is the claim as such I have heard in both Tokyo and Seoul this week. Global threats demand global solutions. And in developing those solutions NATO stands in strong solidarity with our partners here in the Asia-Pacific region." *MULTIPLE SHOTS AT SOURCE*
NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg delivered a statement from the demilitarized zone between South and North Korea, Thursday, urging Pyongyang to stop its nuclear missile programmes.
He also called on UN member states to fully implement economic sanctions against the DPRK. "Global threats demand global solutions," said Stoltenberg, adding that "NATO stands in strong solidarity with our partners here in the Asia-Pacific region."
With a visit to the Demilitarized Zone partitioning the two Koreas, Stoltenberg wrapped up a five-day visit to East Asia.
