Police violently clashed with hundreds of protesters blocking Kiev’s central Khreshchatyk Street, who were demanding the return of money they deposited in now-insolvent Ukraine banks, Thursday.
The protesters burned flares and tyres, blocking traffic from passing the street. Violent scuffles broke out as police tried to push the crowds away from the roadside. Several protesters were arrested over the course of the day.
The National Bank of Ukraine was declared insolvent on May 20th. Protesters are calling on the Head of the National Bank Valerie Gontareva to return their money.
