Grand Mufti of Russia Rawil Gaynetdin congratulated the Muslims of Russia on Eid al-Adha, Monday, from the Moscow Cathedral Mosque, where morning prayers were held in honour of the Muslim Feast of Sacrifice.
Speaking about basics of Islam, Gaynetdin stressed that, "Islam is a religion of peace which rejects any kind of violence because it is against the teachings of Islam and the precepts of our Lord Almighty Allah."
He continued saying that despite this, "people still spill blood" and mislead "young souls, drawing them into their ranks of international terrorism."
The Grand Mufti stated that Muslims of Russia "strongly condemn the terrorist attacks committed in European capitals and the Middle East and other countries and demand to stop supporting these terrorist forces."
Eid al-Adha or the ‘Festival of the Sacrifice’, is the second of two globally celebrated holidays in Islam, the other Eid Al-Fitr, with the former honouring Ibrahim or Abraham’s will to sacrifice his son to God before Jibra'il or Gabriel’s intervention. Animals are often sacrificed on the holiday to remember Ibrahim’s offering.
