People gathered outside the General Prosecutor's Office in Kiev on Wednesday to protest what they perceived to be the illegal actions of prosecutors at the National Anti-Corruption Bureau.
The demonstration was attended by representatives of public and human rights organisations, as well as deputies of the Supreme Council of the Ukraine. They were there to demand that the General Prosecutor Yury Lutsenko give an honest assessment of the actions of his subordinates.
Member of Parliament for Petro Poroshenko Bloc Mustafa Nayyem said that investigations were being undermined by involvement of the Ukrainian Security Service. He explained, "If Mr. Sus [Ukrainian prosecutor] registered his car in his grandmother's name, then the Anti-corruption Bureau has to apply to the Ukrainian Security Service and other agencies to request assistance to these investigations." Nayyem alledged that such scenarios slow down or undermine investigations, "This means that the information gets to the people who are suspects, all investigations are put on hold and then you see what happens."
