Dozens of patients remained at the Lady Reading Hospital in Peshawar on Tuesday, receiving treatment for injuries sustained during the powerful earthquake that struck South Asia on Monday. The 7.5 magnitude quake sent shockwaves through northern Pakistan, Afghanistan and India. The assistant Medical Superintendent at the hospital said the Lady Reading has "received 194 people; out of that two arrived dead, while another two died during treatment. At the moment we have 34 injured [people]." More than 260 people have been reported killed and hundreds more injured, mostly in north-west Pakistan although official casualty figures have not yet been announced. The army has been deployed to carry out search and rescue operations. Shockwaves were felt as far and wide as New Delhi, Kabul and Islamabad. The earthquake's epicentre was located in the mountainous Hindu Kush region of Afghanistan, according to the US Geological survey, at a depth of 212km (133 miles).
