Kathleen Zellner, Lawyer for Steven Avery (English): "In fairness, yeah we're looking at multiple people but we've narrowed it very dramatically."
Kathleen Zellner, the lawyer of Steven Avery, who was convicted of murdering Teresa Halbach in 2007, filed paperwork at Manitowoc County Courthouse, on Friday, asking for post-conviction scientific testing of the case evidence. Zellner claimed the crime-scene "doesn't make sense" and said she planned to test DNA that would "answer all of those questions."
Speaking outside the courthouse Zellner said the "huge developments in forensic science" since the original trial would make it possible to answer "once and for all" key questions hanging over the case. She estimated the DNA tests would take three months to complete.
Pressed on suspects, Zellner said she was "looking at multiple people" but had "narrowed it very dramatically."
Avery and his nephew Brendan Dassey were convicted of murdering photographer Teresa Halbach in 2005. The case drew world-wide scrutiny after it was the subject of American documentary series "Making a Murderer," in December 2015. The series highlighted controversial evidence used to convict the two.
