If an agreement on national unity cannot be found soon, then the “cancerous tumour ISIS” and other radical groups will be the “winners” in Libya, German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier warned at a press conference in Berlin, Wednesday. Steinmeier met with UN special envoy Bernardino Leon at the Foreign Ministry to discuss the situation in Libya, as peace talks are planned for conclusion before the start of Ramadan on June 18. The Foreign Minister urged the conflicting parties to reach a resolution, saying that Leon and he have been very clear with the Libyan delegation about how high the stakes are. Twenty-three delegates from Libya met with Steinmeier and Leon in Berlin the previous day and were presented with a proposal for the formation of a unity government. Through these peace talks the UN is hoping warring factions will reach an agreement and restore stability in Libya.
