The Gazi district of Istanbul saw its third day of clashes between police forces and protesters on Tuesday. Demonstrators, many of whom were students, were trying to show solidarity with the Kurdish people and to protest against Turkey’s involvement in the Syrian conflict.
In violent scenes, Turkish police units dispersed demonstrators with stun grenades, tear gas and water cannon. Some masked protesters were seen throwing Molotov Cocktails at the police.
The clashes are ongoing. Up to 23 people were arrested on Tuesday alone, and houses in the district were raided by the police.
