15.08.2015
Dozens of far-right nationalists, mainly from the Catholic organisation ‘All-Polish Youth,’ marched in Zyrardow, Saturday, in memory of those killed in the 1920 Battle of Warsaw. Participants walked across the town waving flags before reaching a memorial site where they laid flowers and candles to commemorate the 95th anniversary of the battle. According to them, they want to celebrate this anniversary as a day of national unity in Poland. All Polish Youth member Kacper Kociszewski also placed emphasis on the events showing how Poland is a “bulwark of Christianity.” During the Battle of Warsaw in the Polish-Soviet war, Polish forces, who found themselves on the verge of total defeat, managed to repulse the newly created Soviet Red Army in what was seen as a great victory over Russia and communism. The 15th of August is still celebrated in Poland and is also marked as the official Polish military day.
