SOT, Angela Merkel, Chancellor of Germany (German): "I don’t see that the objective [to achieve an orderly Brexit] as endangered and I will continue to behave according to principles assuming that we will have a friendship with Great Britain, have tight security and foreign policy relations and hopefully reach a good free trade agreement. And I say what I kept saying before [UK Prime Minister] Boris Johnson’s visit [to Luxembourg] that I still see the opportunity of reaching an orderly Brexit. The talks with [EC President] Jean Claude Juncker served that purpose. I didn’t expect the talks in Luxembourg to yield the solution but it’s good that there were talks."

German Chancellor Angela Merkel spoke to the press at a joint press conference alongside Serbian Prime Minister Ana Brnabic, saying that she still saw the opportunity of "reaching an orderly Brexit" in Berlin on Wednesday.
Addressing the journalists at the press conference, Merkel stated "I don’t see that the objective [to achieve an orderly Brexit] is endangered and I will continue to behave according to principles assuming that we will have a friendship with Great Britain, have tight security and foreign policy relations and hopefully reach a good free trade agreement."
"I say what I kept saying before [UK Prime Minister] Boris Johnson’s visit [to Luxembourg] that I still see the opportunity of reaching an orderly Brexit", she added.
The Chancellor’s statements came hours after EU chief negotiator for Brexit Michel Barnier, said earlier in the day that the risk of a No-Deal Brexit was still on the table despite European COmmission President Jean Claude Juncker’s meeting with UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson.
