Police fired tear gas in several locations across Hong Kong on Tuesday as protesters hit the streets, demanding China to abide by the 1984 Sino-British Joint Declaration and guarantee the freedoms of Hong Kong citizens. The protest was held on the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China.
Many protesters were filmed clad in black with umbrellas as a symbol of the Umbrella Movement.
Several similar anti-Chinese rallies are taking place on Tuesday, with protesters expected to target key Chinese symbols amid a heavy police presence.
Hong Kong has been rocked by protests sparked by a now-withdrawn extradition bill since March. Rallies later evolved into a wider movement against the government, marked by months of clashes between pro-democracy activists and authorities.
