Firefighters Extinguish Blaze on Oil Platform Off Louisiana Coast

The coast guard said that a fire that burned for more than a day on an oil production platform off Louisiana’s coast was extinguished early on Saturday. Petty Officer Carlos Vega said it was reported out around 6am after firefighting crews boarded the platform. The fire had been reported at 2.50am on Friday by an offshore supply vessel that evacuated 28 workers. Authorities estimate that storage tanks on the platform contain roughly 5,000 gallons of oil – well below the platform’s storage capacity of 168,000 gallons.
