Poland: Thousands of nationalists rally against refugees in Warsaw

12.09.2015
Thousand of far-right activists marched through Warsaw in protest against the country accepting refugees, Saturday. The footage shows protesters chanting and holding banner reading "Poles against immigrants." The demonstration was organised by the far-right nationalist movement 'National-Radical Camp' (ONE). It started on Defilad Square and than protesters chanted and held anti-refugee banners, marching down several of the city's major streets. About 40,000 people reportedly took part in the rally. The organisers claim that the majority of refugees and migrants from the Middle East and North Africa are allegedly economic migrants and that "the Islamic community wants to introduce Sharia law." Moreover, they believe that "accepting migrants can lead to terrorist attacks." Polish Prime Minister Ewa Kopacz said on Friday that there will be an extraordinary session of parliament on the matter of refugees and migrants on September 16. Also in July, thousands of people protested against the Polish government's decision to accept 2,000 migrants from Syria and North Africa by 2017.
