Minneapolis woke up to the aftermath of another night of fiery protests on Saturday, as residents began cleanup efforts after several buildings burnt down amid looting on Friday night.
Locals could be seen sweeping up debris and boarding up damaged buildings, while firefighters worked to extinguish smouldering fires alongside soldiers on the streets.
"It's my neighbourhood and it's not being protected appropriately right now, so that's what I'm doing, I'm protecting my neighbourhood, I'm taking care of my neighbours." said local Beth Wiig.
"I mean when the rebuilding starts, we'll be out and help with the rebuilding effort as well. I want to go where I am needed right now. I'll do whatever," she added.
Last Friday, violent protests calling for justice for George Floyd erupted near Nicollet and Lake in Minneapolis where rioters looted and set fire to Wells Fargo and the surrounding buildings belonging to a shopping centre complex.
Floyd, a Houston native, died in Minneapolis earlier this week after a police officer knelt on his neck for almost nine minutes as he was recorded saying, "I can't breathe" and "Don't kill me."
Four officers involved in the incident have since been fired. The officer who knelt on Floyd was arrested and charged with third-degree murder and manslaughter on Friday.
Protests and demonstrations have taken place across the US in reaction to Floyd's death, with riots and looting also occurring in some areas.
