Over 10,000 people marched through the streets of Buenos Aires to mark International Women's Day, Tuesday, to demand legal, safe and free abortion and to call for the end of femicide.
The protesters gathered outside the Argentinian Congress before marching to government buildings at the Plaza de Mayo. Many of the protesters played musical instruments, while others carried placards calling for legal abortion and women's rights.
According to the Femicide Observatory in Argentina 'Zambrano Marisel,' one woman is killed every 30 hours and about 300 cases of gender violence are reported each day in the country. Between January and October, 2015, there were 233 cases of femicide added to the 1,808 registered between 2008 and 2014, making a total of 2,041 crimes against women during the previous years.
