Morocco: COP22 officially opens in Marrakesh

President of COP21 and French Ecology Minister Segolene Royal opened the 22nd Conference of Parties to the United Nations on Climate Change (COP22) in Marrakesh, Monday.
In her opening speech, Royal pointed out that the COP22 will be an "African COP," noting that climate justice is "our priority."
During the opening ceremony, Royal also welcomed the president of the COP22 Salaheddine Mezouar.
The conference, which is set to last until November 18, will oversee the start of the implementation of the Paris Agreement, a convention aimed at reducing global-warming emissions. Some 180 countries, including China and the US, have signed the agreement, but many are yet to fully ratify the deal.
