Anti-government protesters attempted to gather at Grand National Assembly Square in Chisinau, Saturday, while the Moldovan President Nicolae Timofti gave a speech on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of Independence Day.
Riot police reportedly prevented protesters from entering the square and used tear gas against them. Among the protesters were members of 'Our Party' and the 'Dignity and Truth' party. Protesters chanted "mafia out" and "government - resign."
Prime Minister Pavel Filip condemned the protest, saying that Moldova should be ruled by people "who build it, not destroy."
