USA: TPP will build prosperity throughout the Americas says Kerry

US Secretary of State John Kerry praised the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP), saying it will "build prosperity throughout the region", at the Washington Conference on the Americas, Tuesday. Kerry went on to say that he believes the TPP is an opportunity to "put our values into a trade agreement itself" and not just a "technical trade agreement". Kerry also said he was "happy" to see Trade Promotion Authority (TPA) beginning its "journey through Congress" in preparation for the final TPP agreement. Currently the TPP, a regional regulatory and investment treaty, involves Australia, Brunei, Canada, Chile, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Peru, Singapore, the United States, and Vietnam. According to the Office of the United States Trade representative website, the agreement is being negotiated to provide new economic opportunities for workers, farmers, ranchers, and businesses, as well as making it easier to sell American-made goods abroad. There have been many protests against the TPP in recent weeks, with Ohio Senator Sherrod Brown calling for people to "fight back" against the potential agreement after stipulating his belief that Congress is attempting to fast track the TPP so they can take jobs out of the US and "send them overseas," labelling this a "sell out" at a rally held outside the US Capitol on April 15.
