The Outdoor Foundation’s 2014 American Camper Report found that 40.1 million Americans — 14% of the U.S. population over the age of six — went camping in 2013. While becoming one with nature is clearly a draw for many of us, camping comes with some inherent dangers that aren’t typical concerns in the cities and suburbs. Sudden thunderstorms, unruly insects or animals and health hazards like dehydration and altitude sickness can all put a serious damper on what should be an amazing outdoor experience. Luckily there are ways to decrease the chances of camping dangers affecting your next trip. Separate lightning fact from fiction; Be on the lookout for bees and wasps...and snakes...and bears; stay hydrated; stay oriented and most important...have fun!
