Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos announced that his government and the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) will sign a peace deal within six months, while speaking in Havana following peace talks, Wednesday. Santos also underlined the "step that FARC has taken today," and acknowledged that although "we are on different sides, we are moving in the same direction." He added that it was necessary to reach an agreement so that an armed conflict like that between the Colombian government and FARC "never again, never again, happens." During his speech, he was accompanied by Cuban President Raul Castro and FARC's top military commander, Timoleon Jimenez, known by his alias "Timochenko." Cuba's capital has witnessed both sides of the conflict meeting for peace talks on several occasions over the last three years. The Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) is a Marxist–Leninist armed organisation involved in the continuing Colombian armed conflict since 1964. The precise strength of the FARC forces is unknown, although it is believed to comprise around 10,000 men and women, most of them guerrilla fighters.
