Germany’s parliament, the Bundestag, voted in legislation to further tighten asylum laws during a session in Berlin, Thursday, with the lower house voting through the ‘Asylum Package II’.
According to the new bill, asylum seekers must leave the country if sentenced to a prison term of at least one year or more.
Under the new package, people from "safe home countries" will go to new reception centres, where they will be processed faster. The package also implements a two-year ban on family reunification for migrants not covered by the Geneva refugee convention. The measures will also make refugee deportation easier and faster to implement.
