Real Madrid coach Julian Lopetegui said his team beat Espanyol 1:0 despite tiredness and a lack of control in the second half, during a press conference after the Liga match in Madrid's Santiago Bernabeu Stadium on Saturday.
"In the last 15 minutes, we lacked control. Accumulated tiredness also affected us, we come from where we come from, an emotional and physical exhaustion from three days ago," Lopetegui said referencing to Real Madrid's Champions League win against AS Roma on Wednesday.
"The most important and positive thing is that the team got three points, it knew how to suffer in moments of difficulty," Lopetegui added.
"I think we have done a good job in filling up spaces and gaps, producing a centre," said Espanyol coach Rubi during the press conference. "I give it credit because it is very difficult to come here and make [Real] Madrid a bit uneasy. It's already something."
Real Madrid's only goal on Saturday was scored by Marco Asensio and awarded by VAR four minutes before half-time, allowing Los Blancos to move to the top of La Liga.
