Russia: EMERCOM extinguish diesel-fuelled blaze on trawler

EMERCOM successfully extinguished a severe fire that was raging on the 'Cape of Elizabeth' fishing trawler which was carrying 125 tonnes of diesel in Khabarovsk Region's Sovetskaya Gavan port, Friday morning. A Mil Mi-8 transport helicopter was deployed by EMERCOM to help battle the blaze. The chopper made three water disposals of 9 tonnes in total in the port. Previously, the vessel had been dragged to the bay to prevent the depressurisation of the fuel tanks and reduce the danger of oil spills. The crew of the trawler was evacuated, with no casualties reported. According to EMERCOM, 89 people and 9 units of equipment were involved in the operation.
