Russian engineering team Avrora presented its invention, a robot vehicle called the MARS A-800, at the 6th Military European Land Robot Trials (ELROB) near Eggendorf on Tuesday.
The Avrora team leader, Stanislaw Goll, said "the robot is following the soldier, which has a marking-sign on him. This mark creates a path for the robot. The robot is used for transporting for example of luggage, ammunition, wounded soldiers, first-aid-kits and medication," adding that it is achieved by combining "data from a laser-scanner and ultrasound technology. This allows us to recognise the mark which the robot is following."
Another Aurora team member, Sergei Luksha, added that the robot "is able to perform different tasks in off-road scenario. And it is also able to swim. And this is the best thing, and this is one of the advantages of our robotic system."
Avrora is consisted of students from the Ryazan State Radio Engineering University (RSREU) and engineers of various other technical specialties. They are winners of the nationwide robotics competitions 'Mobile Robots - 2010,' 'Robofest - 2010; 2014' and 'Robokross - 2013; 2014; 2015'
The 6th Military European Land Robot Trials is a four day event during which engineering teams from different countries present their inventions, as well as participate in competitions that include robotic inventions.
