Colombian police with the support of the EU's police agency, Europol, and the U.S. Secret Service dismantled a digital printing shop that was used to produce counterfeit currency, in Bogota on Saturday. Police officers seized €2.30 million ($2.56 million), $1.10 million (€900,000) and 11 million Colombian pesos ($3,516; €3,155) in fake money. The money was reportedly intended for distribution in Europe and was discovered alongside printing and production equipment, printing plates, and other materials used for counterfeiting. Police said five suspects were arrested in the operation. Europol has actively supported the dismantling of illegal money-printing shops in Colombia since 2004, when it signed a cooperation agreement with the Colombian National Police. Since then a number of joint operations have been carried out.
