Apple Hates Televisions, but Loves TV

An Apple TV set will not be a thing. According to a Wall Street Journal report, Apple toyed with a variety of cutting-edge television set features, including a see-through TV and integrated FaceTime cameras. None made it out of the research and development phase. The seismic changes in television viewing habits surely had an impact on Apple’s television plans. It's becomes clear that for Apple and Tim Cook “TV” is synonymous with Apple TV — now a billion-dollar business — and how it will reinvent television as we know it. It's the delivery platform for every new video service that Apple adds, including over-the-top options like HBO Now and Apple’s own rumored Internet TV subscription service. As for the HDTV we watch it on, it’s just a dumb box best left to other companies willing stay in such a low-margin business.
