Obama Administration Recasts Climate Change as a National Security Issue

U.S. President Barack Obama on Wednesday will highlight the national security risks that climate change poses, featuring it prominently in a commencement address at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy in Connecticut. The White House released a new report summarizing findings from numerous federal assessments, each of which has identified the potentially costly and destabilizing impacts of global warming.
Obama will tell Coast Guard Academy graduates, “I am here today to say that climate change constitutes a serious threat to global security, an immediate risk to our national security and, make no mistake, it will impact how our military defends our country.."
