Democratic presidential candidate and Senator from Vermont Bernie Sanders urged his voters for a massive turnout during a campaign rally in Manchester, Iowa on Saturday, claiming it will result in a caucus win on Monday.
"If we have that courage [for a massive turnout], not only we will win here in Iowa, not only we will win the nomination, but much more importantly we will transform America and create a government that works for all of us and not just a handful of billionaires," said Sanders. He went on to add that such a turnout "makes the establishment just tremble. Imagine working people and low income people, people of colour standing up for justice, standing up for dignity and being prepared to take on a billionaire class. That's what this campaign is about."
Ahead of Sanders, American philosopher and human rights activist Dr Cornel West took his turn in speaking in front of the Democratic supporters, using the opportunity to criticise Presidential candidate Hillary Clinton for alleged untruthfulness regarding campaign sponsors, saying "You can't receive that Wall Street money and say you have no influence in your behaviour."
The presidential nomination process commences officially on Monday evening with Iowa being the first US state to hold caucuses throughout its 99 counties.
