Travellers were evacuated from Zaventem airport in Brussels on Tuesday after at least 13 people were killed and dozens more wounded as two explosions ripped through the complex earlier that morning.
Emergency services arrived at the airport to co-ordinate the operation and manage travellers. The explosions occurred in the airport's departure hall, reportedly near the American Airlines check-in desk.
The cause of the explosions is unknown however there are reports that shouts in Arabic were heard beforehand.
Two additional blasts occurred at metro stations near European Union offices in the city, killing at least 10 people.
The attacks take place four days after the capture in Brussels of Salah Abdeslam, the main suspect in the jihadist attacks in Paris on 13 November 2015.The airport is currently on lockdown, with rail transport stopped and incoming flights diverted to Antwerp and other locations.
Belgium has raised its terror threat to its highest level.
