06.10.2015
Clashes erupted between protesters and Turkish security forces, after a curfew was lifted in the city of Silvan, in the south-eastern province of Diyarbakir, on Monday. The crowd, most of whom were young men, threw rocks at armoured vehicles out of which volleys of tear gas were fired. The three-day curfew was declared on Friday, October 2, after Turkish forces killed at least 17 suspected Kurdish Worker's Party (PKK) militants. The assault follows reports that two Turkish soldiers were shot dead by PKK militants on Thursday. Teams from the anti-terrorism brigade were deployed in Friday's offensive, reportedly targeting at least three of the city's predominately Kurdish neighbourhoods.
