Police in Uttar Pradesh found an eight-year-old girl in the jungles near Bahraich who is believed to have been raised by a troop of monkeys.
Footage filmed Wednesday from a hospital in Bahraich shows the girl suffering from behavioural dysfunctions and lacking the ability to speak or interact normally with humans.
The girl was first spotted about two months ago during a routine police patrol in the Katarniaghat Wildlife Sanctuary, local media revealed. After being rescued and transported to a nearby hospital, it was evident that the girl could neither speak nor understand speech. She was also intimidated by the sight of human beings.
"When she arrived here after being rescued by the police, her condition was very bad. There was no hair on her head and it was completely damaged," said D.K. Singh, a physician in the hospital where the girl is currently undergoing treatment.
Singh added that the girl used to be quadrupedal but has "improved a lot" since treatment.
The girl awaits being moved from the hospital to an orphanage in Uttar Pradesh's capital city Lucknow, due to the absence of any known family or caretakers.
