28.11.2016
Paul Nuttall was voted leader of the UK Independence Party (UKIP) in London on Monday with 9,622 votes, a 66.2 percent majority. Nuttall vowed to make UKIP a “united” electoral force to hold Theresa May to account in delivering a “real Brexit”.
Nuttall said the country needed a “strong UKIP more now than ever before” or there would be “no impetus on Theresa May” resulting in a “mealy mouthed, backsliding version” of Brexit tantamount to a “betrayal of the British people.” “My leadership will not allow that to happen” he said.
Farage called 2016 a “revolutionary” “amazing” year and congratulated UKIP as being the “inspiration” behind Donald Trump’s election victory as well as the “inspiration for Eurosceptic parties big and small right across the continent.”
John Rees-Evans came second place in the leadership contest with 2,775 votes or 18.1 percent, while Suzanne Evans came second with 2,973 votes, 19.3 percent of the vote. Of 32,757 voting slips sent out to party members, 15,405 votes were cast.
