Experts at the Siloe publishing house worked to create replicas of the Voynich manuscript in the city of Burgos, Tuesday, after the company won the rights to produce identical copies of the mysterious illustrated hand-written codex.
Juan Jose Garcia, director of Siloe, called the centuries-old manuscript "cryptic," elaborating that "it is not known what language it was written in and if it is encrypted." He noted that scholars had not been able to decipher it, adding "that's the appeal of this book."
The Voynich manuscript has become a celebrated case in the history of cryptography and has been studied by many scholars and cryptographers alike, but without much success.
The manuscript, which combines a coded writing and drawings of plants, is believed to hold magical powers, and "may turn everything into gold or even [offer] the recipe for eternal youth, infinite life," according to Juan Jose Garcia.
