Quarantined factory workers in Kairouan, Tunisia are producing 50,000 masks and other medical equipment daily. Footage filmed on Tuesday shows some of the 150 workers that have decided to isolate themselves in the factory and dedicate their time to making surgical masks in an effort to further prevent coronavirus spreading.
The 150 workers, most of whom are women, have vowed to isolate themselves in the ConsoMed factory for a month. The factory has acquired enough food for all 150 volunteers to get through the month and has 150 beds. Many extracurricular activities have been organised for the workers and the site even has football pitches and basketball courts for exercise.
ConsoMed normally exports the products they make but have decided to make much-needed resources for the Tunisian health sector during the outbreak. The factory has been producing masks every day from 6.30 AM to 22.30 PM.
Tunisia is currently reporting 362 confirmed cases of COVID-19, which have led to a total of ten deaths since the outbreak began.
