Mother Nature is not helping Alaska.
Hot, dry and windy conditions are making firefighters' jobs incredibly difficult as they battle the Sockeye Fire. Initial sparks exploded like a bomb. The wildfire now covers more than 6,500 acres less than a day after it started.
The fire, which is only about 80 miles north of Anchorage, the state's largest city, remained at 0 percent containment Monday afternoon. The Alaska Interagency Coordination Center reported that as many as 45 buildings, most of them homes, have been destroyed.
