10.08.2016
More than a hundred Black Lives Matter (BLM) protesters marched through the streets of Seattle on Tuesday in resistance to police brutality and police killings.
The event began at Westlake Park and ended at Capitol Hill, marking the second anniversary of Michael Brown's death. Brown, an 18-year-old black man, was shot and killed by police officer Darren Wilson in Ferguson Missouri. He was later exonerated of any wrongdoing.
Chants such as "no justice, no peace" and "these racist cops have got to go" could be heard throughout the length of the march, which did not witness any violence.
Protests have rocked the US following a series of high profile police shootings of African American men. Alton Sterling, 37, was shot when two police officers went to investigate a claim that he was in possession of a gun while selling CDs in the parking lot Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Philando Castile's death came just one day after Sterling's, also at the hands of a police officer in Falcon Heights, Minnesota. Both killings were caught on camera, going viral, with a series of consequent police shootings of members of America's black community leading to protests.
