14.04.2016
Volodymyr Groysman was elected and confirmed by the Ukrainian parliament as the country's sixteenth prime minster, on Thursday following the resignation of Arseniy Yatsenyuk.
Groysman was nominated by the Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko's bloc and was confirmed in the position with 257 out of 390 Verkhovna Rada deputies voting for him.
According to Poroshenko, the new Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine will continue the course of integration with Europe. Former Prime Minister Yatsenyuk resigned on April 10 after a series of accusations of corruption and inaction.
While in office, Yatsenyuk stoked controversy when he made allegations that some ministers were being undermined in their attempts to tackle corruption. Poroshenko asked Yatsenyuk to resign on February 16, later the same day the Rada stopped short of a no-confidence vote in the cabinet, but deemed their work "unsatisfactory."
Previously Groysman held the post of Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada and had served in Yatsenyuk's government as Minister of Regional Development.
