Dozens of Egyptian nationals gathered outside the Egyptian consulate in Istanbul on Friday, to protest against Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi marking the 9th anniversary of the 2011 revolution.
"We will not forget the martyrs of our revolution but we ask God for his mercy on them, we will not stop mentioning the good they did for us, as well as the injured, for what they have done of sacrificing their blood to returning our stolen country to us. Our martyr president [Morsi] is the icon of our revolution and the icon of the Arab Spring," one of the protesters said.
Protesters carried anti-Sisi placards, several protesters were signalling the Rabia sign, the four-fingered hand gesture commonly used by activists and politicians who oppose the military coup d'etat that deposed Morsi in 2013.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan remains a steadfast proponent of Morsi even after he was ousted from his office following a military coup led by current Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi in 2013.
